About Stoats & Weasels

I’m Lisa Bamford, a Brighton-based graphic designer. I’ve been delivering successful design projects for 20 years, since graduating from Kingston University with a BA(Hons) Graphic Design. My roles in the design industry prior to Stoats & Weasels have included managing a £1m+ design and print company for five years. Therefore, as well as my creative talents, I have experienced running a business, marketing, project and account management – so have first hand understanding of all that they entail.

Formally co-owner of Brighton design studio Itonic (2005–12), I started Stoats & Weasels in 2012. My aim is to bring fresh and imaginative design to my clients’ branding and marketing. Reliable on delivery and deadlines, I’m versatile enough to meet the needs of a diverse bunch of clients. From clean typography to decorative illustrative elegance; from confident logos to engaging websites, I love every element of design  – and it is this enthusiasm that I bring to every project I work on.

Why Stoats & Weasels? Well like my namesakes in the wild, I take on both large and small challenges. I succeed through creativity, experience and complete dedication to the task. I have a tried and tested pool of collaborators to draw from (web developers, copywriters, photographers, marketeers etc). This means I can build a team around the needs of a bigger project, and keep everyone happy (you and them).

How I work

Creativity is essential, but the success of a good design lies in how well it meets the needs of the client. My approach is to listen carefully and get a conversation going. I get to understand what you want to achieve from the project: brand impact, effective messaging, visual personality… and so on. The design process serves the outcome, and so the desired outcome determines the creative approach. The two are closely related, a bit like stoats and weasels.

It’s nice when people compliment my work because of how good it looks. It’s even nicer when people praise it for how perfectly it meets the needs of the client.

If you want to know more about how I can help your business, I’d love to hear from you. Call me on 01273 358835 or email lisa@stoatsandweasels.com – because I’m always happy to have a chat about potential projects.

Lisa is one of the most creative designers I have worked with. She has been creating designs for Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce for the past 3 years and during this time has created the look and feel of a wide range of campaigns. Her work is always stunning and never fails to get the highest of praise from her peers. She is quick and without fuss produces strong and intelligent work every time. For me it is a privilege to work with someone so talented.

Sarah Springford, Director, Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce

“Lisa is a real pleasure to work with. From the very first meeting Lisa has listened to us, got to know and understand us and our business and then created the most amazing gorgeous design/brand/website for our beautiful new nursery. When you work with Lisa you get a sense of a very creative, brilliant, patient designer who will always take the time to support and guide you through the whole design process. She responds to a range of requests very quickly and has developed a brand that we absolutely love and never dared dream could be so good. The compliments we receive are overwhelming and I really can’t stress enough how fantastically brilliant Lisa is. I am very pleased that Lisa was recommended to us she is simply marvellous.”

Kate Peach, Each Peach Childcare

“We loved the design Lisa came up with for our website. I feel like she really understood what we wanted and translated it into a great design that reflects our company. I feel like she is a very talented artist and felt confident that she was going to come up with something great… And she did, first attempt! She was very flexible and patient when we wanted to make some changes and tweak things till we got it just right. She is personable and fun and I’d highly recommend her.”

Anna Debenham, Eco Alchemists

“Lisa is an extremely accomplished designer. I’ve worked with her on a number of projects for my own clients. She’s extremely good at ‘getting the brief’. She is more, in my opinion, than a designer as she has very good messaging and copy abilities too. No hesitation whatsoever in recommending!”

Charlie Snell, Managing Director, Fresh Approach Marketing

“The brand design is very innovative and completely different  from the traditional designs that dominant our market, which is precisely what we wanted. The result of this means we have a brand that clearly stands out from our competitors  to provide us with a real edge.”

Anna Calvert, Marketing Director, mybreast

“Enthusiastic, professional and very personable and extremely reliable and creative.”

Sarah Gibbs, Sarah Gibbs Marketing

That rare combination of creative, flexible, considerate and timely. A joy to work with, free from the preciousness that often comes with such artists.

Craig Glenday, Editor-in-Chief, Guinness World Records

What we love about working with Lisa is that we can go to her with an idea or a concept and she brings it to life by applying a perfect combination of design expertise and common sense. With build14me we wanted a strong, contemporary and credible design, one that became instantly recognisable and worked equally well in print or online. We were really delighted with her initial designs – they really ‘hit the right spot’. The website and business stationery both look fab.

Jo Weatherall, Frank Communications

I absolutely love the work Lisa has done for me and has made me feel re-energised and proud about my business. I would recommend her if you want your business and brand to stand out from the crowd.

Lorraine Bell, Simply CSR

Lisa has consistently delivered outcomes which exceeded my expectations. The standard of the results should by judged even higher considering the limited brief I usually give her. She also shows remarkable patience when I start to edit her ideas and has yet to question why she wasn’t given that stronger direction at outset. Client feedback shows we are very lucky to have found her.

Kevin Fowler, Managing Director, Platinum Finance

From my first meeting I felt we were on the same wavelength. The ideas produced were innovative, eye catching and meaningful. A lot of time and thought went into the design and the advice I received was always professional and helpful.

Wayne Johnson, Founder, Metonoya

Keen, competitive and capable design; always willing to work late and accommodate late changes made by slave-driving clients… and without getting angry! What more could you ask for?

Simon Forty Editorial Director Compendium Publishing

“Throughout my time of working with them they proved to be professional, helpful and inspiring in their design work. They provided guidance and ideas in the early stages of  the design brief and ensured the marketing medium and design would be correct for the market they were aimed at.”

Nicky Chisolm, Founder, Mums in Biz

Lisa has done some amazing work for us in designing new marketing materials for the Brighton and Hove Chamber of Commerce. She is full of great ideas, very creative, and makes me smile. She does brilliant design, but also really understands how design works for marketing and business development.

Julia Chanteray, The Joy of Business

When I write copy, I’m always thrilled when I know that Lisa is going to be on the design end of things. I love her freestyle, imaginative responses to a brief, without taking her eye off what it needs to achieve. Her work is high impact and quite stunning.

Paul Sharville, copywriter

Not only does Lisa have great graphic design talent and flair, but also she has intelligence and humour. She has a way of cutting through the flannel to get to the point of  discussions with creative and useful suggestions.

Julie Stanford, Emeritus President, Brighton & Hove Chamber of Commerce

Since our rebrand we have been able to promote ourselves to bigger and more profitable clients. Our new marketing collateral means we can compete with the big corporates even though we are a small independent firm.

Paul Chandler, Managing Director, Burgess Williams

Their pricing is honest, transparent and fair and they offer excellent value for money. Their attitude is approachable, professional, responsive and flexible. They consider everything said to them and turn this into some amazingly creative results.

Rob Molloy, Head of TV, Guinness World Records

We are delighted with the design work…the book looks fantastic and it has been a great pleasure to work with such talented, creative and, importantly,
reliable designers. We would have no hesitation in recommending the company and very much hope to work with them again soon.

Candida Lacey, Managing Director, Myriad Editions

The Woodingdean Primary School PTFA website is fresh, vibrant and fun thanks to the creative design given to us by Stoats & Weasels. We are grateful to Lisa for taking the time to listen to how we want to present ourselves and help us achieve the right look. We are very pleased with the result which offers a clear and effective way to access information about our organisation.
