It’s time for the May festival frenzy in Brighton, and we’re pleased to be taking part in Brighton’s Open Houses again. We’ve got some fab new work by some returning artists and also from some new people, so lots to look at. I love the motivation the Open House gives me to produce my own design work outside of my clients’ briefs, and often the work I do on my personal projects feeds back into my day job; which definitely makes it worth it. Plus, I love seeing people smile when they look at my work. It’s nice to make people happy!

This year we’ve got a great line up of artists:

Alex Bamford – photography
Lisa Bamford – graphic art
Sarah Edmonds – Illustration
Anna Vartiainen – Printmaking
Claire Griffiths – Jewellery
Laura Danby – graphic art
Sally Evans – textiles
Jemina Schlee – textiles
Helen Lucas – ceramics

We’re open from 11am to 6pm every Saturday and Sunday in May at 21a Brunswick Square – The garden will be open for savoury and sweet treats from Real Patisserie… if we haven’t eaten it all before you get here! Look for the bunting outside.

Christmas Markets

Christmas Fairs posters

I’m delighted to be taking part in two excellent markets this year. Both are really well organised and will feature a mix of lots of different artists and makers. The details are:

Etsy Made Local – Saturday 3rd December, 11am–5pm at Brighton Dome

Fairy Tale Fair – Sunday 11th December, 11am – 4pm at Brighton Open Market

I’ll be selling my range of playful cards, prints and gifts… preview in my Etsy shop but it would be lovely to see you at one of the fairs.

Brighton Summit

A video showing the highlights of the Brighton Summit; an event which celebrated the centenary of the Chamber of Commerce and for which I designed all the branding and marketing. You can see a few examples of that on my portfolio page.

As part of the Pleasure Hour I joined in with the Chamber choir session. Considering we’d only just met and so had never sung before I don’t think we did too badly!

All in all it was a fantastic day of celebrating doing business in Brighton. A lot of people put a lot of hard work into the organisation of the event and we were all thrilled that we got so much positive feedback. When’s the next one?

Open House exhibition

artwork for Open House

I’m very pleased to announce that for the second year running I’m taking part, and hosting, an Artists Open House in Hove. I’ve taken a new direction this year and will be showing quirky, witty graphic prints and books. I’ve also thought it a good idea to do potato prints using Farrow & Ball paint… take a sneak peek at my designs here. In total there are nine artists showing their work and designs including brilliant jewellery from Rockcakes, inspired photography from Alex Bamford, super cool gaffer tape artwork from Chris Harrison and beautiful flower photography from Kate Benjamin.

You’ll find us at 21A Brunswick Square in Hove, and we’re open every weekend in May from 11am to 6pm. We’re part of the Brunswick Town trail, so there are lots of other houses you can visit nearby… as well as the Regency Town House just a few doors away. And if you need to keep your energy up you can eat delicious cakes in our sunny (fingers crossed) sculpture-filled courtyard.

We have a tumblr site with some more info about our artists, and the main AOH website has info on all the other participants.

There’s no obligation to buy, and at the very least you get to have  a nosy around our house. Last year we had over 2600 visitors over the four weekends, so come and help us make this year even busier!
