Biba in Brighton

The legend that is Barbara Hulanicki visits Brighton for the first time in 50 years and talks about her history in the city:

Brighton Museum and Art Gallery has a ‘Biba and Beyond‘ exhibition on until April next year, so you’ve got plenty of time to visit. I went last weekend; and as well seeing some of the iconic fashion designs she created for her Biba label, I learnt three things:

1. Biba’s first shop was in Brighton, on Queen’s Road.

2. She’s a brilliant interior designer too; I didn’t know about this, but she’s been named as one of the people responsible for reinvigorating Miami’s South Beach a few years ago… the interiors she designed for the hotels there are giving my passport ideas!

3. She’s one feisty, independent, stylish and fearless woman. *goes off to order autobiography*

If you can show you’re a Brighton & Hove resident you’ll get in to the exhibition for half price… it’s a snip at £3.
